How Long Should an Asphalt Driveway Last?

March 25, 2022

Homeowners often think about their driveways and how to maintain them properly. What they know is that the more care they put into their driveways now, the better those driveways will take care of them in the future. Some homeowners spend a fair amount of time working out how long their asphalt driveway should last them, and this is a fair question to understand how to keep their driveway looking sharp well into the future.

Asphalt Driveway Resurfacing

Over time, asphalt driveways will give in to the outside elements and start showing signs of damage. This is natural, and it is nothing that you should be terribly worried about except for the fact that you will need to resurface the driveway at this point.

Generally speaking, your asphalt driveway should last up to 20 years as long as it is properly maintained. Thus, you need to make sure you take the time to get it resurfaced if you start to notice cracks or other issues begin to show up in the driveway. If that happens, you need to snap into action and take some time to rebuild what you have already created. This is the only way forward as you work on making your driveway look the best that it can and last as long as it should.

Should I Switch to an Asphalt Driveway?

As far as curb appeal is concerned, there is no beating an asphalt driveway. It looks sharp, and people who have this kind of setup for their home are generally very pleased with the curb appeal. They don’t do it just to get the attention of their neighbors and others, but this is a nice benefit to go along with everything else. If you own your home and are allowed to make whatever changes you would like to, then you should absolutely consider getting an asphalt driveway. It is the best way to keep your home looking its best and to make sure your driveway can last you much longer than it otherwise would.

The expense of switching over to asphalt is something to consider. There will be an initial investment that you need to front to get this done, but many people look at this as a downpayment on a great-looking driveway they know will hold up. Think about how your driveway looks now and how you would like it to look, and then decide if switching to an asphalt driveway is the best option for your property.
