This post is going to provide some information or methods on what you can do to get your asphalt surface looking new again. The following are descriptions of asphalt applications or terminologies are used so you can better understand how to communicate with individual contractors when requesting estimates for an asphalt paving project.

We’ll start with asphalt resurfacing, or re-paving, which really means a new layer of asphalt will be applied over an existing layer. It can also be referred to as an asphalt overlay or asphalt re-cap depending on what part of the country you are in.

Resurfacing is a good approach to getting a new asphalt parking lot or driveway given the current asphalt surface is in good enough condition to serve as a base for the new asphalt layer. IE is a good candidate for (resurfacing or resurface paving).

You will have to repair any areas that are currently failing before you re-pave, but given the proper repairs and preparation, you can attain a brand new parking lot or driveway that will last for many years. It’s also the most cost effective way to get a new asphalt surface on your parking lot, driveway, pathway or any other paved surface.

Not only is it the most cost effective way to getting a new parking lot or driveway, but it is one of the strongest ways to pave as you are utilizing the first layer of the existing parking lot or driveway as a base, and the new paved layer serves as your finish layer. This is described in the paving industry as full depth asphalt, which is usually used in commercial applications. This produces a very strong surface when installed in multiple layers, also described as (2 lifts), meaning 2 layers.
